Teaching
I provide guitar lessons for:
Most of my kids' lessons are held in school by arrangement with the school. If your school does not presently offer guitar lessons, then you are welcome to put me in touch with it to arrange them. Lessons are $20 and held on a weekly basis during term time. My recommended age for starting kids on guitar is 9 or 10.
I hold current liability insurance and a current working with children check.
I have a traditional approach to teaching music. Students learn to read music, the value of notes and rests, basic music theory and so on - much in the same way that they would if they were learning the piano, violin or any other instrument. I supply the music and study materials for my students at no extra charge. I can coach for grade examinations.
You will need a (preferably) nylon-string guitar, a footstool or other support, a digital tuner and a music stand. A decent student guitar costs from $150 upwards with extra for a case, tuner and stand. I recommend the Yamaha C40 (in 3/4 size for 9 to 12 year-olds).
I give adult lessons by arrangement usually by visiting their home. Lessons are $40 for a 30 minute lesson. I prefer to give adult lessons on a fortnightly basis. It often takes more than a week to make progress and get something into the fingers, so I'd prefer to see you at an interval of two weeks.
